Collect Bean: How do you balance your practice with your daily life?

Kady Grant: Balancing my practice with my daily life is always tricky business. Lately, I’ve been trying to schedule it in, which sounds unromantic but it’s a way for me to prioritize painting in a practical and consistent way. Painting is one of the things I most want to do, so making sure it's given its due share in my schedule helps me feel better about all my other obligations.

Collect Bean: What is the kindest thing someone can tell you about your work?

Kady Grant: The kindest thing someone could tell me about my work is that it made them want to make something of their own. Whenever I see work that elicits this response in myself, I know it hit the mark.

Collect Bean: What does growth mean to you?

Kady Grant: Growth to me, means reaching higher ground where the view is wider than it had been. Greater perspective as a marker of evolution.

Collect Bean: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Kady Grant: Allow your idea of success to be flexible.

Collect Bean: If you had to describe your work in only three words, what would they be?

Kady Grant: Funny, Sad, Introspective
